Perspectives - English Language Learning Programme for Youth
At Dialecta Language School, we have chosen the "Perspectives" textbook series as the foundation for shaping a completely new approach to learning English. This series serves as the basis for developing an innovative teaching programme tailored to the interests of young individuals.
Our goal was to find a modern and effective approach to learning that empowers our students, encourages critical thinking and helps them achieve the best possible results.
The "Perspectives" textbooks, created by National Geographic, are designer for learning English and feature TED Talks- short, informative lectures that promote effective language learning. This series is intended for all high school and university students.
The goal of this programme is to encourage critical thinking, creativity, enrich vocabulary, and enhance general knowledge through interesting and current content.
What are TED Talks?
TED Talks are short, inspirational lectures on diverse topics, delivered by experts and leaders from various fields such as technology, entertainment, design, psychology, medicine, and more. These lectures are designed to be informative and motivational, encouraging critical thinking.
Here are some examples of topics: "Why doesn’t success bring happiness?", "Are we in control of our own decisions?", "Can AI catch what doctors miss?", "How to calm your anxiety?", and "The surprising psychology behind your urge to break the rules."
Each lecture is presented in an original and informative way by experts, often professors, PhDs, or geniuses and other specialists. All TED Talks are available online and are easy to access, listen to, and find. Check out an example of a short TED Talk here:
In our classes, after students watch an inspiring TED Talk, lively discussions begin. Different perspectives are presented, and creative questions are posed, allowing students to express various viewpoints for a better understanding of the subject.
This interactive engagement helps students practice communication, expand their vocabulary, and shape their accents by listening to native speakers. These lectures also promote cultural understanding and mutual respect, providing an opportunity to think outside the box and learn about different cultures and customs.
The textbook offers a variety of activities, including writing, discussions, research projects, pair work, and presentations. The focus is on developing all language skills – listening, speaking, writing, and reading – through an integrated approach that includes authentic materials and everyday situations. It really sounds great, doesn't it?
To successfully participate in discussions, debates, and understand TED Talks, students need a solid knowledge of English, at least at the B1 level. Our programme, designed to last three years, guides students through different levels of language competence up to the advanced level C1.
However, we adapt to the needs and goals of each student, so it is possible to attend the programme in a shorter period, depending on other students’ obligations and desired achievements.
The programme covers three levels according to CEFR standards (B1-C1), ensuring that our students confidently master the necessary vocabulary and grammar for each level. What sets us apart is our unique approach, which makes language learning not only effective but also creative and exciting!
“Perspectives” is designed to be more than a traditional textbook. It offers students the opportunity to explore the world through language and content that interests, inspires, and motivates them!
