Spanish Language

Hola and bienvenidos to the Spanish language course at Dialecta!

"El que lee mucho y anda mucho, ve mucho y sabe mucho."

- Don Quijote de la Mancha, Miguele Cervantes

The Spanish language originates from Latin, which was spoken on the Iberian Peninsula. With the development of the Castilian dialect in the Middle Ages, it evolved into the modern Spanish we know today. During the Golden Age of Spanish literature, the language flourished with the work of authors such as Cervantes, Lope de Vega, and Calderón de la Barca. Today, Spanish is the official language in 21 countries and has a significant influence worldwide, reflecting its rich cultural and linguistic diversity. Approximately 480 million people speak Spanish as their native language worldwide. The majority of native Spanish speakers are based in Spain and Latin America. The language is also widely spoken in many parts of the USA, where it is the second most widespread language after English.

At Dialecta, the programme is taught in a gradual and systematic manner, starting with foundational elements such as greetings, colours, introductions, and reading simple texts like 'Mi casa' or 'Mi familia'. At the beginner level, you will master the present tense of verbs, primarily 'ser' and 'estar', and be able to form simple sentences. At higher levels, new grammatical concepts are introduced, such as 'pretérito perfecto', 'subjuntivo presente', 'indicativo', 'pretérito imperfecto', and 'pretérito pluscuamperfecto', which are consistently reviewed, systemized and reinforced. By the end of the C1 level course, you will be able to write newspaper articles, CVs, cover letters, and read masterpieces of Spanish literature. Each course at Dialecta is tailored to the individual progress of each learner. Our teachers strive to unlock the full potential of each group by maximising the full potential of each individual.
