Russian Language

Привет and добро пожаловать to the Russian language course at Dialecta!

"Если бы мы знали, что и как надо делать, то мы все были бы счастливы. Но мы учимся, как делать, а не как надо делать."

- (Анна Каренина, Лев Толстој)

Russian belongs to the Slavic language family (specifically East Slavic). It is the official language of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, and one of the official languages in Ukraine, Latvia, and Tajikistan. It is also widely spoken as a minority language in various countries of the former Soviet Union and among Russian-speaking communities worldwide. With over 260 million native speakers, Russian is one of the most widely spoken languages globally. Additionally, about 110 million people speak Russian as a second language, having learned it through educational programmes or using it for business or cultural purposes.

Did you know?

In Russian, besides singular and plural forms, a “dual form” is often used to express quantities of two or a few items.

Your guide towards achieving your language goals is our experienced Russian language and literature teacher. She has many years of experience teaching more than one foreign language, but Russian is her native. Having worked at institutes and numerous international schools, she has extensive experience in teaching both children and adults and holds an internationally recognised teaching certificate. The Russian language course is open to all ages, from 6 years and up, and covers all levels according to CEFR standards. You can read more about the distribution of CEFR levels here.

The programme is designed to be gradual and systematic, starting with learning the Cyrillic alphabet, the present tense of the verbs быть (to be) and иметь (to have), and the nominative and accusative cases. The courses then progress to the past and future tenses, genitive, dative, instrumental, and prepositional cases, eventually mastering the conditional, writing essays, and reading works of famous Russian literature. Each course at Dialecta is tailored to the individual progress of the students. Our teacher is dedicated to bringing out the full potential of each group by maximising the potential of every individual.
